Motorcyclist Killed in West Philadelphia Motorcycle Accident

Posted by Charles Gilman | Feb 24, 2020 | 0 Comments

motorcycle accident in West Philadelphia claimed the life of a 47-year-old man last week. The accident occurred on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, when the motorcyclist collided with a vehicle at the intersection of 54th Street and Diamond Street. The victim was rushed to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Although any accident can cause serious injury to its victims, accidents involving a motorcycle have a high likelihood of fatality. The level of exposure that a person experiences when riding a motorcycle is significant. When combined with colliding into a vehicle that weighs several thousand pounds, a motorcyclist is faced with an unfair fight.

Wrongful Death Lawsuits in Philadelphia

If you are suffering the loss of a loved one due to a motorcycle accident, you already know that there is no amount of money that can compensate you for your loss. If you are suffering financially as a result of your loved one's death, however, a wrongful death suit can alleviate some of the financial stress that you are facing.

In Pennsylvania, individuals who can recover from a wrongful death lawsuit include an accident victim's spouse, parents, and children. A wrongful death action can compensate the surviving family of a deceased victim for a variety of losses, including:

  • Loss of the deceased victim's income;
  • Costs of services that the deceased provided to family members, including cooking, cleaning, and home maintenance; and
  • Costs of services and bills that the victim was paying, including costs of mortgage or rent payments, food, clothing, and other necessities

In some cases, a wrongful death action can provide a victim's family with compensation for losses that are not easily quantified into a dollar amount. For example, a wrongful death action can provide financial compensation for:

  • Loss of companionship that the deceased victim provided to his or her family members; and
  • Loss of guidance and experience that a parent would provide to a child if the deceased victim left behind minor children.
