Tom Hanks Sued For His Son’s Car Crash

Tom Hanks is one of the most successful American actors of all time. The star of Forrest Gump, Big, and Saving Private Ryan, Hanks is also among the most well-liked and popular actors. His wife, Rita Wilson, is a successful actress in her own right, and son Colin Hanks is a rising star. However, 25-year-old son Chet Hanks has made the headlines for a different reason. Chet was recently involved in a car accident, and now Tom and Rita are being sued for damages.

Chester “Chet” Hanks did not follow the acting tradition like his father or older brother. Instead, he is apparently pursuing a rap career under the name Chet Haze. However, he is more well known for having a problem with drugs and alcohol. In the most recent incident, he allegedly rear-ended a driver in California.

Now the injured driver, Terry Moogan, has filed a lawsuit against Chet, as well as his parents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The lawsuit alleges Chet was “driving his vehicle in an unreasonable and unsafe manner and was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol,” at the time of the accident. However, because the car was owned by his parents, Moogan is arguing that they are responsible for the injuries sustained in the collision.

The documents also allege, “Despite knowing that Chester Hanks was a careless and reckless driver and a habitual user of drugs and alcohol, they negligently permitted Chester Hanks to operate their vehicle.”

While Tom Hanks hasn’t responded publicly to the lawsuit, he has addressed his son’s drug and alcohol problems. “As a parent, you love your kids unconditionally,” said Hanks. “You support them every step of the way.” However, it is unclear whether Hanks will continue to support Chet by letting him use a family-owned vehicle, subjecting the family to possible further lawsuits.

Chet hasn’t been silent about his struggle with alcohol and drugs. A year earlier, he was wanted by police in London for allegedly trashing a hotel room. He has since admitted to going to rehab, and posted a video online saying he was taking a look at his life, and decided to go forward without relying on drugs or alcohol.

The driver says he has suffered long-term injuries as a result of the crash, including whiplash and brain injury. He also said the police were not called to the scene of the accident because Chet Hanks begged him not to call, and offered to pay for the repairs out-of-pocket. However, the payment does not appear to cover the long-term injuries.
