Pedestrian In Critical Condition After Philadelphia Hit-and-Run Accident

A pedestrian was seriously injured when she was hit by an SUV in North Philadelphia last week. The pedestrian accident took place around 10:30 p.m. near Diamond and 17th streets, where an SUV crashed into a car and then hit a woman who was walking.

The driver of the SUV exited the vehicle and immediately left the scene of the accident, leaving the 21-year-old pedestrian gravely injured. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Police are still looking for the driver of the SUV who was at fault for this tragic hit-and-run accident.

Pedestrian Accidents in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is considered one of the most popular cities in the country for pedestrians, as residents and tourists alike prefer to get around on foot. But sadly, it’s not always safe to walk around this city. In fact, about half of the people who died in Philadelphia auto accidents in 2014 were pedestrians. So it should come as no surprise that this city suffers from one of the highest rates of pedestrian deaths compared to other cities around the same size.

Some of the most common injuries suffered by pedestrians hit by cars in Philadelphia include the following:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Back injuries
  • Bruises
  • Lacerations
  • Road rash

If you were hit by a car while walking around Philadelphia and suffered these or other injuries, it’s important to hire a lawyer so you can determine how to seek damages from the driver. After all, you’ll likely have medical bills to pay, all while missing some of your income due to taking time off work to recover. You shouldn’t have to shoulder these costs on your own after a Philadelphia pedestrian-car accident. Hiring the right car accident attorney can help you seek the compensation you need.

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in Philadelphia

Pedestrian accidents are devastating enough on their own, but they’re even worse when the at-fault driver leaves the scene of the accident. Leaving an injured or dead pedestrian alone at the scene is both morally and legally wrong. So if you were hit by a car and the driver left, you can rest assured the police will do everything possible to find and prosecute him or her.

In the meantime, you should get the medical and legal help you need as soon as possible. Hopefully, you already got emergency medical assistance immediately after the Philadelphia hit-and-run accident, as most pedestrian accident injuries are severe enough to warrant a hospital trip.

Make sure to tell the police any information you might remember about the driver, such as a description of him or her and the vehicle. If you weren’t able to fill out a police report right after the accident, contact the police department now so you can give them as many details as possible. This will give them a better chance of finding the driver so he or she can face legal and civil penalties.

Finally, contact a Philadelphia car accident attorney and arrange for a free initial consultation. During this meeting, you can let the lawyer know the details surrounding the pedestrian hit-and-run accident that left you injured so you can begin your case.
