One Dead After Car Crash On I-95

One man is dead and another is injured after a car crash on a freeway by the Delaware-Pennsylvania border last week. On Wednesday evening, a 41-year-old man from Delaware was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on I-95 when he veered out of his lane and hit the back of a construction truck in the median. The Caterpillar M318C Excavator was occupied by a 64-year-old Maryland man who was doing some construction on the freeway.

Once the Ford pickup hit the construction vehicle, the pickup spun counterclockwise before coming to a stop across the northbound lanes of the highway. The driver was trapped in his pickup for about a half-hour until the fire department could extract him. He was transported to the hospital for life-threatening injuries, and he died hours after he arrived.

The driver of the construction vehicle was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening. The police are still investigating why the driver of the Ford pickup drifted out of his lane and into the back of the Excavator.

What to Know About Auto Accidents in Philadelphia

Car accidents in and around Pennsylvania are not rare, though fortunately, the fatality rate is now the lowest it’s been in decades. More specifically, in 2018, there were 128,420 auto accidents in Pennsylvania, killing 1,190 people and injuring 78,219 people. While this sounds like a lot, the fatality rate in 2018 was actually the second-lowest recorded in this state since 1935.

This is good news overall. However, Philadelphia car crash statistics don’t exactly help people who do become victims of auto accidents in Pennsylvania. If you’ve been injured as a result of someone else crashing into your car, it’s time to talk to a personal injury attorney who can help you seek compensation for any expenses related to the auto accident in Philadelphia.

What To Do After a Car Accident in Philadelphia

If you’ve been hit by a driver in Philadelphia, the most important action you can take is to get immediate medical help if necessary. If you don’t need to go to the hospital, make sure you don’t leave the scene of the accident without exchanging insurance information with the other drivers, filling out a police report, and recording as much evidence as you can. This means taking pictures of your injuries and damage to your car.

If there were witnesses who saw the accident, you’ll want to get their contact information and ensure they make a statement to the police so it’s on record. Once you get home, you should call your auto insurance provider to report the accident. Your next phone call should be to a Philadelphia personal injury lawyer who can help you file a claim against the driver’s insurance company.

Talking to a personal injury attorney should give you some peace of mind in case the insurance provider makes your claim more difficult than it needs to be. So contact a Philadelphia car accident lawyer today to schedule an initial consultation!
