Like any large hospital, though, the medical professionals that work within Hahnemann University Hospital can make mistakes or poor decisions that put patients at risk or lead to severe medical complications or injuries that should not have happened. In some cases, these mistakes or negligence can amount to medical malpractice. Getting compensation for these terrible instances is what the medical malpractice attorneys at the Philadelphia law office of Gilman & Bedigian do every day.
History of the Hahnemann University Hospital
The Hahnemann University Hospital is one of the oldest medical facilities in the Philadelphia area. Established in 1885, the hospital was created to be a teaching hospital for Hahnemann Medical College, which was founded in 1848. The hospital moved to the South Tower of its current location at the corner of Broad and Vine Streets in 1928 and built the North Tower in 1979 when the services it provided required more room.
In 1993, the Hahnemann Medical College was bought by the Allegheny General Hospital and became the Allegheny University of the Health Sciences. However, Allegheny went bankrupt five years later and the Hahnemann University Hospital took its current name after being bought by the company Tenet Healthcare. This effectively ended Hahnemann’s association with a university, although Drexel University remains loosely affiliated with the hospital. In 2017, Tenet sold all of its assets in Philadelphia to another healthcare corporation, Paladin Healthcare, including Hahnemann University Hospital.
The Hahnemann University Hospital, Today
Now, the Hahnemann University Hospital has 496 beds and boasts of numerous programs and facilities that are well-regarded in the Philadelphia region. These include
- a Level I trauma center,
- a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and
- a minimally invasive robotic surgery program
