Close Personal Contact

If you or someone you are close to has been seriously injured or worse, you are naturally devastated, not only by what has happened, but by the effect that the injury or loss has had on you and your family. At a time when you're vulnerable, traumatized and emotionally exhausted, you need a strong team right from the start that will support you through the often complex process that lies ahead.

You will be dealing with representatives from organizations such as insurance companies and hospitals. By the nature of their job, these people are working for the best interests of their employer, not you and your family, and often times people who just experienced a devastating event can be at a distinct disadvantage in these situations. Having an experienced legal team as your advocates can help put you on equal ground. When you and your loved ones are dealing with the aftermath of an accident, injury, or even death, the last thing in the world you want to deal with is a pile of paperwork or sitting through a grueling interview with an overbearing insurance claims adjustor. We will help you through every step of this process and minimize the disrupting effect this process has on your life.

In addition, we are committed to promptly answering any and all questions you may have about your case. If you call us during business hours, we do our best to return your call that day. If you call after hours, we try to respond on the next business day.

The team at Gilman & Bedigian includes not only attorneys with several years of personal injury litigation experience, but also an experienced group of paralegals, a physician, and a compassionate team of administrators dedicated to advocating for you and your family after an accident or injury has occurred.

"Charles Gilman & his staff are very amazing people. They listen to you, make sure you understand your case & fight to the death for what you deserve. I would definitely refer anyone to the office of Charles Gilman. Thanks a million." - A.M.

Practice Areas

At Gilman & Bedigian, we are titans of torts. Tort law, also called personal injury law, provides the means by which an injured party can bring a civil action to recover losses, also known as damages, caused by the actions of another. Those actions can be either accidental, or negligent, or the actions can be intentional. In certain cases, a person can be held strictly liable for their actions. In a strict liability case, a person can be liable regardless of whether or not they were negligent.

We handle a wide range of personal injury cases including:

Accidents: It is an unfortunate fact of life that accidents will happen. Someone isn't paying attention or isn't being careful and suddenly, injuries occur. However, just because a person's actions were unintentional, or negligent, does not mean that that person can escape responsibility. When you have been injured due to someone else's negligence, you have the right to seek recovery for any injuries sustained. Our firm handles all types of accident cases including: vehicle accidents, truck accidents, other types of transportation accidents, construction site accidents, horse-related accidents, drowning and swimming pool accidents, and slips and falls.

Catastrophic Injuries: A catastrophic injury can be devastating to you or your loved one. Catastrophic injuries are extremely serious because they can lead to a permanent disability or disfigurement. This type of injury can be caused by any number of different things from car accidents to fires to dangerous working conditions and include burn injuries, brain injuries, environmental injuries, and injuries from intentional actions. At Gilman & Bedigian, we have an extensive track record in handling cases where the plaintiff has been severely or catastrophically injured.

Dog Bites: Dogs are commonly referred to as man's best friend. Unfortunately, even the most loving dog can unexpectedly attack leaving you with serious injuries. The degree to which the owner of the dog is liable depends on the type of statute, or law, governing dog bite cases in your state. Some states apply negligence principles, so that the owner is only liable if the owner knew or had reason to know that the dog had dangerous propensities. Other states have statutes that imposes strict liability on dog owners. Strict liability is liability without fault. This means that the owner of the dog will be liable to you for any injuries sustained because of the attack even if they had no idea that the dog posed a threat. Contact us today if you sustained a dog bite injury.

Premises Liability: Premises liability deals with injuries or accidents occurring on another's property. Owners of land are supposed to use reasonable care in the maintenance of their property. If you have been injured on someone's property that person may be held liable for the injuries you incurred. There are many different factors that can affect the liability of a landowner, so it is important to discuss your case with an experienced attorney. Our firm has attorneys with years of experience dealing with premises liability cases.

Medical Malpractice: Medical Malpractice occurs when a medical professional, such as a doctor, is negligent in the care of their patient. When you or a loved one have been injured due to medical malpractice you can seek damages for the injuries you incurred. Medical errors can include: failure to diagnose, delayed diagnoses, surgical errors, negligent intubation, anesthesia errors, emergency room errors, wrongful pregnancy, negligent prenatal care, childbirth injuries, plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery malpractice, among other things. Medical errors are serious and can lead to life-long complications, so it is important to have a competent and experienced attorney representing you or your loved one. One of our attorneys helped his clients obtain two of the largest jury verdicts in the history of the State of Maryland.

Elder Abuse: As we age, we grow in infirmity, and often need additional levels of care. Elder abuse means "any knowing, intentional, or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that causes harm or a serious risk of harm to a vulnerable adult." The type of abuse involved can range from physical abuse to neglect to exploitation. Nursing homes are another potential source of elder abuse with one study from 2002 finding that nearly a third of nursing homes were cited for some form of abuse violation between the years 1999-2001. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Our firm will advocate on behalf of you or a loved one, if you have been subjected to elder abuse.

Disability Claims: At Gilman & Bedigian we can help you with your Social Security Disability or Veteran's Disability claims. Dealing with government agencies like the Social Security Administration and the Veteran's Benefits Administration can be difficult, complicated, and confusing. Having an attorney can help make applying for disability benefits through these agencies a less headache-inducing process. We help prepare the application and gather documentation of your disability so you can focus on your recovery.

Wrongful Death: Wrongful Death is a legal claim that can be brought by surviving family members against a person if that person negligently or intentionally caused the death of a loved one. If a person's or entity's actions, either intentional or negligent, caused the death of another then the family of the deceased may have a claim for wrongful death. Wrongful death is often governed by statute which has certain requirements for recovery.

Workers' Compensation: Workers' Compensation is a statutory scheme to provide no-fault compensation for at work injuries. In exchange for receiving benefits, you often waive your right to sue the employer directly, but alternatively, even if your injury was your fault, you can still recover. The statutory framework of a workers' compensation program will vary depending on the state. Our firm handles worker's compensation cases in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

Defective Products: Hundreds of millions of products are sold in this country every year. While many of these products are designed and manufactured well, every year defective products of all kinds– from pharmaceutical drugs to children's toys– make their way onto the market and injure consumers. Anyone from the manufacturer to the retailer may be liable for injuries sustained due to a defective product. This area of law, known as products liability, usually consists of three different types of claims: design defects, manufacturing defects, and failure to include proper warnings.
